Rallying for Heroes: Supporting Marilyn and Jim Moxin in Their Mission to Help Seniors in Bucerias

Updated: Aug 26

In the heart of Bucerias, Nayarit, Mexico, Marilyn and Jim Moxin have been nothing short of heroes. For years, they have dedicated their lives to uplifting the most vulnerable members of the community—senior citizens in dire need of support. Their unwavering commitment has brought hope and relief to countless elderly individuals who would otherwise have been forgotten.

Every other week, Marilyn and Jim, along with a few dedicated friends, would visit the homes of local seniors, delivering essential supplies like rice, beans, cooking oil, and other necessities. But as they grew closer to the people they were helping, they uncovered heartbreaking truths. Many of these seniors were living in deplorable conditions—sleeping on makeshift beds of cardboard and suffering from untreated medical issues. The Moxins knew they had to do more.

Moved by the plight of these individuals, Marilyn and Jim decided to take a bold step. They envisioned a solution that would provide not just temporary relief, but lasting dignity and care: a nonprofit care home for seniors. Thus, the dream of Casa De La Paz was born.

A Community's Dream Takes Shape

Their tireless efforts have been nothing short of extraordinary. Marilyn and Jim have worked day and night, spreading their message at local farmers' markets, organizing fundraisers, and even dipping into their own savings to keep the project alive. Their dedication has inspired the entire community to rally behind them. Thanks to this collective effort, Casa De La Paz is now in the final stages of construction.

An Unprovoked Attack

A few weeks ago, Marilyn and Jim were the victims of a brutal, unprovoked attack. As they stood near their car, a man— a Canadian citizen—assaulted them without warning. Although Jim fought back, both he and Marilyn suffered injuries. Marilyn, in particular, was left with damage to her knee, requiring surgery. Jim, too, is still dealing with the physical and emotional aftermath of the attack.

The Power of Community

Despite this setback, the Moxins are not alone. The outpouring of support from friends and neighbors has been overwhelming. The Grimaldi family and Café Bucerias have stepped in to provide daily meals, while their close friend Bernie has been a constant presence, helping with doctor’s appointments, translating for police reports, and offering much-needed moral support.

There is an open case against the attacker, and given that he is a Canadian citizen, there is a strong possibility of deportation. At the very least, we hope justice is served, and this individual is held accountable for his actions.

How You Can Help

Now, more than ever, the Moxins need our support. The dream of Casa De La Paz is so close to becoming a reality, and with your help, we can push it over the finish line. Let’s come together as a community to support Marilyn and Jim, just as they have supported so many others.

You can make a difference. Donate to Casa De La Paz today and help ensure that the seniors of Bucerias receive the care and dignity they deserve.

Together, we can make a lasting impact.
