Exploring the Charms of Oaxaca City on Foot: A Guided Tour

Updated: Sep 2, 2023

Welcome to a captivating journey through the enchanting streets of Oaxaca City. I'm Paul, your guide, and today, we're about to embark on an immersive walking tour that showcases the heart and soul of this vibrant Mexican gem. Join me as we traverse the city's hidden corners and iconic landmarks, capturing the essence of Oaxaca.

Our adventure starts at the cozy haven of Hotel Casa De Sierra Azul, where Daniela, my lovely wife, enjoys some well-deserved rest. As we step into the city's bustling streets, we instantly become a part of the dynamic energy that defines Oaxaca.

First stop: Cafe Muss, a charming cafe that fuels us for the journey ahead. With a cup of local brew in hand, we meander towards the breathtaking Zócalo, a plaza adorned with the stunning Zócalo Cathedral. Here, I had the pleasure of meeting Florencio Mendoza, a knowledgeable tourism representative. He generously shared insights about the area and handed out complimentary maps of the city and its surrounding wonders.

Our stroll leads us through Oaxaca's vivacious streets, where lively parades and celebrations paint the scene with vibrant colors. But our true gem lies ahead – the magnificent Templo de Santo Domingo de Guzmán. This awe-inspiring temple isn't just a sight to behold from the outside; its interior is equally if not more mesmerizing. Golden embellishments grace the ceilings and walls, a testament to the city's rich artistic heritage.

Our journey comes full circle at the tranquil courtyard of Centro Cultural San Pablo. Here, my quest for a corn muffin of legend meets a delightful twist – the platano muffin, equally satisfying. This peaceful haven encapsulates the serenity that juxtaposes Oaxaca's lively spirit.

In a nutshell, Oaxaca is a destination that ignites the senses and leaves an indelible mark on the soul. Its cleanliness, cultural richness, and historical significance make it a must-visit locale. Our adventure, though brief, merely scratches the surface of all the marvels that Oaxaca holds. Stay tuned for future posts where we'll delve deeper into the culinary wonders that grace this incredible city.

So, fellow explorers, until next time, keep your spirits high and your curiosity alive. Oaxaca awaits with open arms and a treasure trove of experiences you won't soon forget.
